Ας ξεκινήσουμε λέγοντας ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΠΟΛΛΑ! Σήμερα είναι η Ημέρα της Γυναίκας και, παρ᾽όλο που εδώ στο queen πιστεύουμε πως κάθε μέρα είναι η Ημέρα της Γυναίκας, γιορτάζουμε σήμερα. Δεν θέλω όμως να σου μιλήσω για την ομορφιά ακριβώς. Θα σου εξηγήσω…
Ζούμε στην εποχή των social media και ο κόσμος του Instagram για πολλές γυναίκες και κορίτσια, είναι πολύ πιο σημαντικός από τον πραγματικό κόσμο. Υπάρχει λογική σε αυτό το παράλογο. Στο Instagram βλέπεις, μπορείς να είσαι όποιος θέλεις να είσαι. Μπορείς να βάλεις φίλτρο στον εαυτό σου και τη ζωή σου, στα λόγια σου και σε όλο σου το είναι αν αυτό θέλεις. Είναι θεωρητικά ένα μέρος όπου όλα είναι πιθανά και παράλληλα ένα πολύ επικίνδυνο μέρος….
Βλέπεις, στον αγώνα για τα likes υπάρχει κίνδυνος να χάσεις τον εαυτό σου. Το Instagram μπορεί να καταπιεί την αυτοπεποίθησή σου. Είναι ένα πολύ επικίνδυνο μέρος. Στο Instagram μπορεί να φυτρώσει μέσα σου η ζήλεια. Ένα comment μπορεί να ταράξει τα μέσα σου. Είναι ένα πολύ επικίνδυνο μέρος. Ένα like μπορεί να ξεκινήσει κακές αλυσιδωτές αντιδράσεις. Ένα unfollow μπορεί να κάνει τα μάτια σου να δακρύσουν. Ένα υπέροχο διαδικτυακό όνειρο μπορεί να εξελιχθεί στον πιο αληθινό εφιάλτη. Είναι ένα πολύ επικίνδυνο μέρος.
Όχι, το instagram δεν είναι απόλυτα κακό. Είναι εργαλείο δουλειάς, είναι τρόπος να εκφράσεις τη δημιουργικότητά σου. Μπορεί να σε φέρει κοντά με ανθρώπους από το παρελθόν ή νέους που δεν θα είχες την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσεις. Όπως μπορεί να σου πάρει την αυτοπεποίθηση μπορεί να σου τη δώσει πίσω στο δεκαπλάσιο όμως παραμένει ένα επικίνδυνο μέρος. Κυρίως για τα κορίτσια.
Μιας λοιπόν που εδώ στο beauty department αγαπάμε τα κορίτσια όπως είναι, με σπυράκια και πανάδες, με τριχοφυία και με λευκές τρίχες, χωρίς φίλτρα και χωρίς μακιγιάζ, αχτένιστα και με φριζαρισμένα μαλλιά, με κυτταρίτιδα και ραγάδες αποφασίσαμε να μην σου πούμε τι να αγοράσεις στον εαυτό σου αυτή την Ημέρα της Γυναίκας.
Αντιθέτως, συγκεντρώσαμε 10 instagram accounts που πρέπει να ακολουθήσεις. Είναι οι λογαριασμοί που αγαπούν τα κορίτσια όπως εμείς. Είναι μικρά reality checks για το feed μας. Είναι η φωτεινή πλευρά του μέσου κοινωνικής δικτύωσης που δεν θα βγει ποτέ από τη ζωή μας και, σαν κορίτσια, πρέπει να μάθουμε να ζούμε υπερήφανα, με αυτοπεποίθηση και αληθινά μέσα σε αυτό. Αρκετά όμως, φτιάξε καφέ και ακολούθησε τα παρακάτω…

View this post on Instagramevery women’s month i think about the work we can do to lift up the next generation. but i also think about the past generations of women who walked so that we could run. this year in particular in the wake of the pogroms in india where muslims were targeted and killed through systematic state abetted violence by mobs of right wing fundamentalists – i haven’t been able to get the ‘widow colony’ out of my mind. the widow colony is a place in new delhi that houses the sikh widows who survived the 1984 genocide of sikhs. these women are a symbol of resilience for me. they remind me that the work for justice. dignity. and freedom is still ongoing. when i think about what they along with countless other minorities are still enduring. it shows me that we have to keep speaking up. especially those of us in the diaspora who are protected by the citizenships we now carry. there’s lots of times when i feel down. when i feel like giving up on many aspects of life. but then i think of the sikh women before me. who contributed to my survival and progress- and i realize they put their lives on the line so i could live. which means giving up isn’t an option. we have so much work to do. books to write. stories to document. and generations of women to lift to the mountaintops.
